CLAREMORE - Willard B. Dover Jr, 76, died peacefully on May 29, 2021, at the Claremore Veterans Center. He was born July 22, 1944, in Portsmouth, VA, the son of Willard Bernard Dover Sr. and Joyce Evelyn (Paris) Dover.
Bud graduated from Baltimore City College, class of 1962. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force in Da Nang as a crash rescue firefighter during the Vietnam War. After his service, he married his sweetheart, Alice F Mattson. They celebrated 54 years of marriage in August. Bud retired from American Airlines after 34 years of aviation maintenance.
Bud grew up as an army brat living all over the U.S. and in Japan. His childhood gave him a zest for life, and he enjoyed traveling, seeing historical places, visiting family, and meeting new people. Two of his greatest pleasures were visiting Munising, MI, every July and taking his grandchildren to ride roller coasters. Whether he was RVing, riding his motorcycle, kayaking, or having coffee and a muffin, he loved hearing other peoples’ opinions about things and sharing funny life stories.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Evelyn Ruterbories. Many people, including his wife, Alice Dover, sons Patrick Dover and wife Maryanne, Kevin Dover and wife Ginger and grandchildren Josh, Lauren, Ashley, Sierra, and Gracie, and many nieces and nephews will feel his loss.
Service of remembrance will be 10:30, June 12 at Central Christian Church, 661 S. Brady, Claremore, OK, 74017.
