Virginia passed away on Wednesday, September 8, in the care of loving family. She was 88.

Virginia was born October 17,1932 to Orval and Vera Dennis Willhoite, at their home South of Claremore in Rogers County, Oklahoma. Virginia, aka Gingie, grew up on a farm in the Sequoyah community and attended Sequoyah Schools. She was the first of the current fourth generation that has attended Sequoyah for their 12-13 years of schooling. She participated in basketball and 4-H, showing livestock at the local fairs.

School friends turned into high school sweethearts, Dub Reed and Virginia were married November 13, 1950. They were the first couple to marry in the Sequoyah Baptist Church, whose construction was not yet complete. This was also the place the couple would establish church membership and be involved over the years, as faith was always a very important part of Virginia’s life.

Shortly after being married, Dub was drafted into the Army and was stationed at Camp Rucker, Alabama during the Korean Conflict. Following two years of service, they returned to the Sequoyah area to make their home.

Virginia was a remarkable home maker. Canning, cooking, sewing and making the home a “Leave it to Beaver” (without the high heels!) loving place to be. Peanut Butter cookies, chocolate cake, and other goodies were readily available when visiting.

Virginia loved to watch and root for her Kansas basketball team.
She was a fan of any sport her kids, grand kids, or greats were playing, even if she didn’t know all the rules. Positive support and praise for a great performance could always be expected from her Virginia’ commitment to faith and family, along with her kind heart will be remembered by the legacy of family she leaves, which include: her children: daughter, Deborah Rader and husband, Charles of Bernice, Oklahoma; daughter, Jayne Charles and husband, Donald of Claremore and son, David Reed and wife, Delinda of Claremore. She is also survived by: 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great-greats She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Dub Reed; daughter, Donna Rae Reed; her parents; and her brother, Ronnie Willhoite.
