Ricky Lee Garrett was born March 3, 1957 in Vinita, Oklahoma. As a kid, Rick grew up immersed in the world of rodeo. He lived to play baseball, and he loved the St. Louis Cardinals. Motorcycles brought freedom to Rick's teenage years before meeting April Vaughan in 1975 and marrying her on January 7, 1980. As a cowboy, Rick excelled at heading and heeling in team roping. Rick worked in construction for the majority of his career, building structures from Tulsa to Las Vegas. His life's focus ultimately became his children, first with the birth of his son Casey Cooper in 1986 and his daughter Tara LeeAnn in 1991. Rick’s passions for sports, live music, the outdoors, making others laugh, and his emphasis on higher education were instilled in his family throughout his lifetime. Rick passed away peacefully at home on Sunday morning May 16, 2021 in Claremore, Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his parents Ann and Dutch Garrett of Vinita, OK. Rick is survived by April, his wife of 41 years. He leaves behind two children Casey and Tara both of Tulsa, OK. He also leaves a sister Deborah Crabaugh of Wyandotte, OK; nephews Jimmy Mathis of Las Vegas, NV and Scotty Mathis of Cleveland, OH; first-cousins Larry Bill Wildermuth of Pryor, OK and Lynn Patton of Chelsea, OK; Brother-in-law Bo Vaughan of Inola, OK.
Rick’s memorial service will be held Friday May 21, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Rice Funeral Service in Claremore, Oklahoma.
