Obituary

Raymond C. Wisner – 1940-2021
Raymond (Ray) C. Wisner, age 81 and longtime Claremore resident, was received into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 23rd, 2021 at Claremore Hillcrest Hospital. Services will be held Thursday, December 30th at 1:00pm at Rice Funeral Service, 631 East Will Rogers Blvd, Claremore, OK.
Ray was born at St. John’s Hospital in Ferndale, WA on March 27th, 1940 to John and Rosa (Moritz) Wisner.
Ray grew up on the family farm in Ferndale, WA with his five siblings, Warren, Fern, Jeanette, Arthur (Art), and Irene. Ray graduated from Ferndale High School.
After high school, Ray enlisted in the United States Navy where he was stationed in Point Mugu San Diego, CA. Ray flew search and rescue on Kwajalein Island in the Marshall Islands and Kodiak Island, AK. It was during his time in the Navy, in the summer of 1959, Ray’s brother Art and his wife Mary Frances (Fran), Shirley’s sister, introduced the two in Killen, AL. From there a courtship began with Shirley Thompson; on August 20th, 1960, Ray and Shirley married. This marriage produced two loving children, Dana R. Wisner and Kevin R. Wisner.
Ray worked for American Airlines for 38 years before semi-retiring and contracting with American Airlines for another 10 years. On May 11, 2009, Ray was recognized with the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award. This award recognizes the lifetime accomplishments of senior mechanics who have served 50 years as an accredited aviation mechanic and have been an FAA-certified mechanic for a minimum of 30 years.
After his retirement, Ray continued to enjoy his time working on his trains, his John Deere bulldozer, or anything else he could “tinker with,” traveling with family, and occasionally enjoying a good donut; often saying there are no bad donuts some are just better than others.
He was first and foremost a proud servant of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, a very proud United States Navy veteran, and a proud citizen of this great country.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, John and Rosa Pearl Wisner and his siblings, Warren, Fern, Jeanette, Arthur (Art), and Irene.
Ray is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley of the home; daughter Dana (Claremore, OK) and her husband Chris; son Kevin (Stillwater, OK) and his wife Jeanne. He also survived by his sister-in-law Nell White (Killen, AL); brother-in-law Robert Thompson (Florence, AL), and sister-in-law Bettye Larner and her husband Bill (Titusville, FL). His grandchildren Raymond Lormer, Elena Wisner, Mikhail Wisner, Alex Wood, Justin Wisner, Olivia Wood, and Jared Wisner. He is also survived by his three great grandchildren Remington Michael, Ruger Clark, and Addilyn Nicole Lormer, as well numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins that he loved and cared for tremendously.
Pallbearers will be: Bill Larner, Kevin Wisner, Justin Wisner, Jared Wisner, Chris Wood, and Alex Wood
Mike Schroeder, minister of the Blue Starr Church of Christ, will officiate the service. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
