PATRICIA “PATTY” ANN JAMES MAY 9th 1939 - OCTOBER 2nd 2021
Patricia Ann Ozburn was born May 9th, 1939, as the second daughter to Thomas and Margaret Ozburn and younger sister to Peg Ozburn. Patty and Peggy as their dad called them grew up in Marion, Iowa and attended Marion School District. It was during her high school years here that she met Lawrence James. Larry and Pat dated for several years and were eventually married February 23rd, 1956, while Larry was at basic training in the United States Air Force basic training in Texas.
It was while Larry was stationed in Okinawa Japan that the couple welcomed their first child, Lorrie to soon be followed by Kathy and Kim with the final members of the young family to be twin boys, Neil and Mark. After Larry left the Air Force the couple settled back in Marion, Iowa and made this their home until 1993. Patricia spent most of her young married life as a homemaker raising the 5 children and managing the household. While raising the children Patricia oversaw the religious upbringing of the James children at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where all 5 children attended Catechism until the age of confirmation. When the James children were older Pat went to work at several different locations around Marion starting with a small dress shop in main street Marion to be followed by Kmart and finally LeFebure where she retired from in 1993.
Patricia and Larry were avid sports fans watching Hawkeye football and basketball religiously as well as watching their numerous grandchildren play various sports rarely missing any such event. In addition to sports Patricia and Larry enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling as their time allowed.
Many weekends were spent at the Ozburn family cabin up on the Wapsipinicon River which was a favorite location for weekend getaways.
Upon retirement from their respective jobs in 1993, Larry and Pat moved to Arkansas for a brief period and then to Claremore, Oklahoma. This would be home for the remainder of their time here on earth as they watched their youngest grand children grow up into young adults. Throughout Patricia’s life her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were always a great source of pride and devotion.
Patricia was always willing to give anybody her time and never expected any of theirs in return, never harbored an ill will toward anyone and was never afraid to speak her mind. She exhibited a quiet strength and rarely was faced with a situation she could not handle. She was a devout Christian, a faithful wife, a loving mother, proud grandmother and great grandmother and a loyal friend.
Patricia shed her earthly bonds on October 2ND 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Margaret Ozburn, sister Peggy Scott and her husband Lawrence R. James. Patricia is survived by her children and spouses Lorrie and Bill Copper of Marion Iowa, Kathy Nice of Orion Illinois, Kim and Tony Wesberry of Claremore Oklahoma, Neil and Kellie James of Claremore Oklahoma and Mark and Angela James of Claremore Oklahoma, nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
