Nola Viola (McKnight) Lester

April 9, 1924 ~ June 18, 2020 (age 96)

Obituary

Nola V. Lester, 96, of Parsons, Kansas, passed on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at Presbyterian Manor, where she made her home.

Nola was born April 9, 1924, in Quinton, Oklahoma, a daughter of Lew & Lola McKnight.

She grew up in Parsons, Kansas, where she attended school.

She married Cecil S. Sexton; they later divorced.  In 1966 she married Arthur (Bud) Lester and they spent their married life in Oklahoma, mostly in Claremore.  They made the most of their 50 years of marriage by taking vacations, their favorite place being Colorado.  They loved dancing and frequented the Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa.  A trip to the Grand Ole Opry was the highlight of this time in their lives.

She worked at Fred Ronald Manufacturing Company in Parsons, Al’s Formal Wear in Tulsa, and at Rogers State College in Claremore, OK.

Nola was an avid OU fan and very familiar with the legendary football team.  She enjoyed razzing other family members who were OSU fans.

Her lifelong passion was bowling. She enjoyed traveling and playing in many bowling tournaments, which she did until her late 80’s.   Thereafter, she enjoyed playing dominoes & bingo with friends and family.  Her life had a lasting impact on her very large family, who marveled at her ability to live long and live well.  She easily engaged with people and seemed to never meet a stranger.

She is survived by daughters, Elaine Marler and Alyce Tallman (Don) of Parsons, Carol Gore of Oklahoma City, and sons Cecil S. Sexton Jr. of Frankston, Texas, Randy Sexton of Tulsa, Arthur Lester, Jr. of Erie, Kansas, John Lester of Livingston, Texas, Richard Lester of Wenatchee, Washington, Jerry Lester of Erie, Kansas, Roger (Peggy) Lester of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bud, two sons, Dale Sexton and Roger Sexton and four daughters in law, Geraldine Sexton, Linda Sexton, Lois Lester and Laura Lester.
