Michael Richard Marone, was born to Philip and Lena (Ruffatti) Marone in Canon City, Colorado. When Mike was a year or two old, he and his family relocated to the Detroit, Michigan area where he spent his youth.
At a very young age, “Mickie”, as they called him when he was young, loved being outside. His mother told stories of him crying and throwing fits at a young age because it was getting dark and he had to come inside for the day. As he matured and became a young man, he was very active and athletic. He played ice hockey, football, loved camping and got to spend a good part of his summers with his adoptive grandparents, Grandma and Grandpa Woods. Grandma and Grandpa Woods had a big influence on Mike’s life, as they lived on a farm and he loved it! He was treated like his cousins that stayed on the farm and was assigned his share of chores. He dreamed of having land and a farm.
After graduating high school in 1962, Mike decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and join the Army. Due to a football injury that he had acquired in high school, the Army did not accept him so he attended a technical school in Detroit for a year before deciding to move to Oklahoma to attend Spartan Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma. While attending school there he met Judy, his wife of 30 years and the mother of his four children, Philip, Richard, Kristy and Michael Jason.
Mike was an airplane mechanic. He worked for American Airlines for 30 years. He raised cattle, first as a hobby, then more of a business, but the whole time, he enjoyed it. He also enjoyed fishing, along with a plethora of other outdoor activities.
