Born Lela Margaret Thurman July 24,1924 to Claude and Ressie Thurman of Claremore. She was the youngest of 5 children. Lela went home to our Lord Saturday April 18, 2020.
Lela was raised and attended school at Tiawah and Claremore, where she graduated in 1942.
During World War II Lela worked for McDonald Douglas drilling holes for the rivets on C47 airplanes for the war.
She married Russell "Russ" Mullikin in 1944. They made their home in Claremore where Lela was a housewife and mom to two sons, Eddie and Rusty Mullikin.
Lela worked for O.M.A. (Oklahoma Military Academy) for several years.
She then moved to Tulsa and worked for two Doctors as Office Manager.
After her retirement Lela married Venus "VA" Lewis in 1982 and moved to Talala. After VA's death in 1991, Lela moved to Claremore where she resided until moving to Claremore Nursing Home in 2014.
Lela enjoyed reading the newspapers everyday, Louis L'Amour books, watching TV and spending time with her sister Jewell.
Lela also loved and cared for numerous dogs over the years.
She loved her family and friends and all the staff at Claremore Nursing Home.
She is survived by her sons: Eddie Mullikin and wife Barbara of Noble Oklahoma, andRusty Mullikin and wife Vickie of Claremore; 5 grandchildren: Jennifer Tracy of Knoxville, Tn. Russell Mullikin of Oklahoma City, Jason Welch of Oklahoma City, Amanda Mullikin and husband David Olsen of Claremore, and Caitlin Williamson and husband Charley of Haskell, Oklahoma; and
two Great grandsons: Andrew and Gavin Williamson of Haskell, Oklahoma.
She is preceded in death by: parents Claude and Ressie Thurman, brothers: Ralph and Clovis Thurman, and sisters: Jewell Ingram and Blanche Ashraf.
Lela will be missed by all her family and friends.
