June (Hendrickson) Purdom

March 22, 1930 ~ October 15, 2021 (age 91)

Services for June Purdom will be held Thursday, October 21, 2021, at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church, Claremore with Brother Sam Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Rice Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

June was born March 22, 1930 in Catoosa, Oklahoma, to Luther and Lorene (Girdner) Hendrickson. June served her country as a WAVE with the United States Navy. She then attended college at Connors State College where she met her future husband, Conrad Purdom. They were married on May 19, 1951. They remained married for over 63 years until his death in 2015.

While Conrad served in Germany in the United States Army, June acquired and ran a small grocery store in Claremore. Afterwards, both Conrad and June attended Northeastern State University eventually earning Master’s Degrees in education. June and Conrad had one beloved son, “Rocky” during this time.

June taught high school in Pryor for a time, was an administrator at Spartan School of Aeronautics, an English Professor at Rogers State, a Claremore City Councilwoman, and in perhaps her most cherished role, a director of Legacy Christian School. June had a passion for education, which she passed on to her son, family members, and former students, but her greatest love was for Jesus and His teachings. She continued to study her Bible and pray, even when all other abilities left her.

June was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, sisters, Tommie Graham and Jean DiCandeloro, and brother, Roy Hendrickson. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Linda Purdom, grandson, Trey and wife Tamara Purdom, granddaughter Clanci, great-grandchildren, Johnny and Eamonn Esmond, Dallas White, Nixie Yancy, and Andi Purdom, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Courtyards of Claremore Assisted Living for their loving care of June. Debbie and her staff were angels when we needed them the most and mere words are inadequate to express our gratitude to all of you.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Legacy Christian School
