Joyce Ann (Boydston) Martindale went home to her heavenly Father, Saturday afternoon, November 14, 2020. She was born November 11, 1931 to Laura (Brentlinger) and Robert (Bob) Boydston. She was born one mile west of Tiawah on the upper banks of Panther Creek, south side of the hill. When she started first grade, she was eager to learn and had the ability to memorize passages that her teacher had an older student read to her. She thrived in the educational setting. Being the youngest, she grew up with many nieces and nephews to love. Her responsibility for the large Sunday dinner was making the salad. She attended Willieo School through the eighth grade and graduated from Inola High School in 1950.
She was one of the founding members of Willieo Baptist Church. She loved God and going to church. She filled various positions through the years. It was in church that she met Johnny Martindale. On May 7, 1954, she married the love of her life, Johnny, and embarked on a 66 year marriage. On December first of that year, she and her entire family were surprised when twin boys made an early entrance. Fortunately there were plenty of extended family willing to help! Her family was complete with the arrival of a daughter.
Through the years she attended Draughon’s Business School and worked for several companies. She gained employment at McDonnell Douglas and retired from there on May 20, 1994 after 28 years. During retirement she helped with the care of her mother, fixed wonderful lunches for John and enjoyed being able to visit more frequently with her sisters. In her later years several health issues slowed her down, but never diminished the loving person she was.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Bill and Ervin, and sisters Jo, Evelyn and Jean.
She is survived by her husband John of 66 years; son Mark and wife Terri and son Michael, and daughter Elizabeth Thoroughman and husband Spencer. Grandchildren: Michelle Bauhaus and husband Trey; Jared Martindale, Andrew Martindale, Mallory Martindale; Jonathan Thoroughman and Victoria-Rose Thoroughman. Great-grandson Lincoln Bauhaus. Also life-long friend, Grace (Anderson) Lupfer.
She was an incredibly wonderful person who was much loved and will be sorely missed.
