Johnny Homer Jones of Claremore, Oklahoma passed away on July 30, 2020 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years.
Johnny Homer Jones was born January 4, 1932 at Vera, Oklahoma to Homer John Jones and Josie Elizabeth Jones. He was the youngest of his five siblings, Ruby, Amos, Roy, Lily, and Lorraine (Tootie). He was preceded in death by his father, mother and his brothers and sisters.
Johnny was married to Wanda Lou Harris in Arkansas on June 30, 1951. They lived in Oologah, Oklahoma until 1979 and then moved to Claremore, Oklahoma. They were married for 61 years. Wanda passed away on October 5, 2012.
Johnny attended grade school at Snarr School and high school at Oologah. He graduated in 1949.
Johnny worked for and retired from T.D. Williamson, Inc. in Tulsa, Oklahoma for 32 years as a machinest and as a tool and die maker.
Johnny loved his family, his church, fishing, hunting and woodworking. It was his great pleasure to make furniture and toys for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also made furniture for the First United Methodist Church as well as many friends. He also enjoyed restoring old furniture. For many years at Christmastime, it was with pride that he made toys for the Toys for Tots organization. He and Wanda were members of First United Methodist Church of Oologah and Claremore their entire lives. He enjoyed going on mission trips.
Johnny was a man of great faith and loved God. He also was a man of great patience and was always willing to help anyone. Being a patient man allowed him to be a wonderful teacher to his sons. He was a wonderful father who took the time to coach the boys in little league baseball and always attended their football and basketball games in junior and senior high.
He is survived by his two sons, John Michael Jones (Amiee) and David Robert Jones (Melanie), four grandchildren, Amber (Ryan), Kelsey (Tommy), Amy (Jesse) and Jarod (Emily) as well as seven great-grandchildren, Avery, Jackson, Emily, Brooklyn, Keely, Cash, Maylee and Cannon Michael who is expected to be born on November 12, 2020, as well as many other family members and friends.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Rice Funeral Home of Claremore, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
A private family burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Oologah, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Claremore, Oklahoma for their missions or to a charity of their choice.
