James Leon Burnett was born in Briartown, OK, to Orville and Sarah Sexton Burnett on September 4, 1935. He spent his early years and attended school in the local area. Leon moved to Tulsa, OK in 1954. This "old fisherman" married Shelia Adamson, the "catch of his life" on April 21, 1956, and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2021.
Leon worked for Oklahoma Steel Castings for several years before taking a position with ZEBCO where he spent 34 ears. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing with his family and friends. Leon and Shelia also traveled with their boys and the two of them visited all 50 states.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters - Juanita Barnes and Imogene Sorrels; two brothers - Chester Burnett and Harold Burnett. He is also predeceased by bro-in-law - George Willis and sister-in-law Edith Burnett. Leon is also preceded in death by best friends Bill and Margaret (Nelson) Lowery.
He is survived by wife, Shelia of the home; two sons - Terry Burnett and Shelley (Henderson) Claremore, OK and Kevin Burnett, of the home. Two granddaughters survive him - Robyn Burnett of Tahlequah, OK and Brittney Burnett, Claremore, OK. He is also survived by one brother Leroy Burnett (Donna) of Checotah, OK and sisters-in-law Donna Burnett: Sonya Adamson Willis, and Karen Adamson (Michael) Kerstetter. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews along with their spouses.
