Born on September 22, 1936 in Collinsville, Oklahoma to Carsley Gilbert and Estalee Emily (Bordwine) Whorton, Harold was reared and educated in Collinsville before he and his family moved to Claremore. At the age of 16, Harold began his work career at Warehouse Market and spent much of his work career at that store. Harold married and became a proud father to his son Lance. Harold later married Shirley Green and they were blessed with four children. The family made their home in Chelsea and the children enjoyed a rural upbringing. Shirley passed away in 1981.
In 1983 Harold met Alma Janine (Eddy) Burkhead and they were married on May 16, 1983. Harold was a wonderful husband and father and loved to care for his family as well as others. He enjoyed working outdoors and mowing the yard or fishing.
A quiet man, Harold was always one to sit back and listen. He was also a humble man. His niece said he was “a whole lot better man than he gave himself credit for.” Harold loved being a father and grandpa and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. While his children were growing up he loved to treat them to homemade ice cream and later, would always bring ice cream with him when he came to visit.
Harold was a faithful man and loved his church family at the Claremore Assembly of God where he was an usher for about 20 years until he was unable to help during the last couple of years.
This loving husband, father and grandfather will be deeply missed by all. Harold is survived by his wife Alma; children Lance, Tim, Mike, Bryan and Jennifer; 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; step-children Carolyn, Van Orr, Jr., Cathy, Barbara, Donnie and Donna; 15 step-grandchildren, 23 step-great grandchildren and 1 step-great great grandchild. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, half-sister Rayann and grandson Zach.
