Gerrit Louwerens, Jr., age 83, of Claremore, Oklahoma, passed away May 7, 2022.
Gerrit was born on March 28, 1939, to Gerrit Louwerens, Sr. and Wally Louwerens in Chicago, Illinois. He married his wife, Ardith (Burleson) Louwerens on December 9, 1967, in San Antonio, Texas. They had three children Victoria, Mark and Shane. Gerrit had two children from a previous marriage, Troy Wright and Cindy Wright.
Gerrit and his family lived in 16 states during his military career, until he retired from the Air Force in 1978. He worked for the U.S. National Park Service as a financial officer for 26 years and worked at Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and San Francisco Maritime National Parks . He was active in the VFW and ELKS Lodge.
Gerrit enjoyed hunting, mainly deer, elk and antelope in Wyoming. He enjoyed hanging out with his drinking buddies and telling stories. He was a big football fan, especially of the Panthers, and enjoyed having friends over to watch football games.
Gerrit is survived by his wife, Ardith; children Victoria (Louwerens) Bridges; sons, Mark Louwerens and Shane Louwerens and Cindy Wright; 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren due this month.
Gerrit was preceded in death by his parents, Gerrit and Wally Louwerens, Sr; sister Elvira Ryan; and son, Gerrit Troy Wright.
