Gene Edwin Anderson, 90, passed from this life Monday, March 9, 2020 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Gene Edwin Anderson, Sr. was born at home on July 19, 1929 in Mannington, West Virginia.
He attended school there finishing the eighth grade. He then worked at the Anderson family businesses in Clarksburg, West Virginia - a filling station and garage, as well as a scrap metal business. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the Army serving his country in the Korean War reaching the rank of staff seargant. He was also a private driver for a general and his family. After the war, he and some of his family moved to Catoosa, Oklahoma and purchased the land where the Blue Whale now sits and helped construct it and several buildings there. Gene met the love of his life. Alene Berry in Catoosa and married her a few months later, he took a position at McNabb Coal Company where he worked for 38 years working his way up to the position of Drilling Supervisor. He was the first certified driller in Oklahoma. Upon retirement, Gene and Alene spent many months in Colorado and Galveston, Texas doing what he loved best- fishing and camping.
Gene is survived by his wife: Alene (Berry) Anderson; sons: Gene Anderson Jr. and wife Robin, Gary Anderson and wife Toni; grandchildren: Gina Nelson and husband Scot, Jody Anderson, Shane Gourley and wife Rachel, Brandy Anderson, Trevor Anderson, Travis Anderson, Sunnie Gourley; great grandchildren: Jesalyn Nelson, Hunter Nelson and wife Brittany, Kaitlyn Anderson, Kane Anderson, Wyatt Anderson, Emily Gourley, Gunner Anderson, Landon Parker, Gracie Parker, Connor Gourley, Alice Chism and a host of extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Diane Anderson Gourley; and brother: Bob Anderson.
A visitation will be held 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Thursday, March 12, 2020, at Rice Funeral Service of Catoosa, Oklahoma.
Gene's Celebration of Life service will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, March 13, 2020, Westside Holiness Church, 2950 North, OK-88, Claremore, OK 74017
