Edward "Leroy" Shirel, 78, of Collinsville, Oklahoma entered his eternal Heavenly home on Sunday, August 15, 2021. He was born December 3, 1942, in Salina, Oklahoma to Rev. Thomas Edward and Lottie B. (McLaughlin) Shirel.
With his dad being a sharecropper and preacher, he attended 22 different schools around Rogers County before graduating at Berryhill High School in 1960.
After graduating Leroy went to work with his brothers Bill and Jerry at 7UP Bottling Company loading trucks in the warehouse with Jerry while Bill ran a route. He left 7UP Bottling Company and begin working at Page Milk Company where he had high regard for Mr. Page. He then left Page Milk Company for a short time to go to work at Pepsi running a route. He then returned to Page Milk Company where he ran a route in the Claremore area. Thereafter, he became a supervisor with them before becoming an independent distributor with them before they went out of business in 1980. He then was an independent distributor with Hiland Dairy in the Claremore, Chelsea, Vinita, Verdigris, Inola, Foyil, and Oologah areas. He continued this until his retirement.
Leroy never really had any hobbies outside of work. His hobby was making sure that all his longtime customers and friends were always taken care of. There were a few years on a 140-acre farm that he enjoyed taking care of some cows. He always enjoyed every opportunity that he was given to watch his children and their families grow up.
The Claremore and Oologah areas were home for most of his adult years. He married and became the dad to 2 children, Kim, and Rodney. Later he met Sally Marie (Ulry) Faught, along with her son Nathan. Leroy and Sally were married in Miami, OK on June 17, 1980. Both church and faith were always important.
They made their home mostly in Oologah and later after retirement settled in Collinsville where they attended 1st Pentecostal Church of Collinsville. One of Leroy’s best pastimes was going to auctions. He also enjoyed leading worship songs at church, work, and spending time with his grandchildren which was important to him.
Leroy was loved by many, including his family, friends, and his milk route customers that he had for many years that stayed loyal to him not because he always had the lowest cost for a gallon of milk, but because of his dependability and loyalty to them.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas, and Lottie Shirel; siblings Myrtle Shirel; Nadine Gregory; Olen Shirel; Violent Dobson; Anna Keller; Harold Shirel; Harley Shirel; Vernie Williams; and just a few weeks ago Bill Shirel.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Shirel, of the home for 41 years. 3 children, Kim, and her husband Dan Hemmerly of Forest, Ohio; Rodney, and his wife Pauleta Shirel of Claremore, Oklahoma; Nathan and his wife Amanda Faught of Tulsa, Oklahoma. 6 Grandchildren, Tiffany, and her husband Brandon Morris of Centerton, Arkansas; Daniel, and his wife Megan Shirel of Kiefer, Oklahoma; Paul, and his wife Arabelle Hord of Marion, Ohio; Rachel Shirel of Lawton, Oklahoma; Alex Faught of Edmond, Oklahoma; and Hayden Faught of Tulsa, Oklahoma. 5 Great grandchildren, Ryder Morris, Tanner Shirel, Camden Shirel, Asher Hord and Ranger Morris. 1 brother, Jerry Shirel of Deer Park, Texas.
