Obituary

Claremore, Oklahoma – Dolores “Dolly” Petermann, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and sister, passed away on August 30, 2021 at the age of 73. Dolly was born on August 14, 1948, in Sudbury, Massachusetts as the second oldest daughter of Elizabeth and William Lockhart.
Dolly grew up in Massachusetts but relocated to Oklahoma where while working in Lawton met Michael Petermann. Following a brief courtship they were married on December 17, 1977. Dolly and Mike were blessed with five children; 3 sons and 2 daughters. She was also like a mother to many more. Her influence and love was felt around the world.
In addition to raising a family she graduated from Northeastern University and received her degree in education. Dolly was an active member in her service oriented sorority long after graduation serving as Recording Secretary and Vice President.
Dolly was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various Sunday School teaching and leadership capacities including children, youth and women’s organization presidencies. Dolly had a servant’s heart and always sought out the “one.” She was a founding member of the Sunshine Sisters, a volunteer group dedicated to reaching out to women in need in Rogers County.
Dolly worked as a special education teacher in the Claremore and Verdigris school districts for many years before retiring and blessed the lives of countless students and their families. Among her many talents, she was an excellent gardener, florist, and organizer.
Dolly’s greatest legacy was service to others. Her greatest source of joy was her family whom she fiercely loved, cherished, and protected. She taught her family the principles of hard work, loyalty and sacrifice.
Dolly is survived by her husband, Michael Petermann, her children and their spouses David (Jennifer), Michael (Anna), Brandi (David) Long, and Matthew, eleven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters June (David) Matthews and Joyce (Glen) Alt, two brothers Paul (Rosie) and Charlie, and sister-in-law Linda Kirwin.
She is preceded in death by her parents William and Elizabeth Lockhart, older brother William “Billy” Kirwin, older sister Marion Lois, and daughter Sherri Rene.
