Barbara June Martin

March 13, 1934 ~ January 12, 2021 (age 86)

Barbara June Martin of Verdigris-Claremore passed away Tuesday evening January 12th, 2021. A 47-year resident of the Verdigris Claremore area, Barbara was the Mother of Keith W. Martin, wife Lisa and grandmother of Landon Martin and Laci (Martin) Wilkins. Barbara was a native of Arkansas City, Kansas, the youngest of 8 children born to Milton and Ethel Loyd. After graduating High School from Ark City and working at Dillon’s Grocery, she met Aubrey Martin from Sallisaw, Oklahoma, who was working as an electrical lineman in nearby Wichita. They Married at the age of 19 in September 1951 and forever merged the Martin-Loyd families. Moving to Tulsa in 1960, Aubrey worked for Public Service Co. of Oklahoma for the next 34 years until his retirement. Though she worked part-time outside the home Barbara was a consummate and unapologetic housewife and homemaker. She gained great satisfaction and identity as a mother, wife, friend, and eventually a grandmother. After her son Mark graduated from McClain High School in Tulsa, the family relocated to the Verdigris area in 1973 where her son Keith attended Verdigris and Claremore schools. Barbara and Aubrey attended First Baptist Church in Verdigris from that time on. She cherished the relationships she forged at her church, especially after Aubrey’s sudden passing in 1993, when then-pastor Charles Sandusky and wife Judy, and many friends took it upon themselves to serve, love, and minister to her. They were the true representation of the Body of Christ and the role of the church community in love to one another. She survived her husband for 27 years living at her home in Verdigris, and briefly with her son Keith and daughter-in-law Lisa in Claremore, and at the Baptist Village in Owasso until recently. Her fondest and most cherished memories were of family...the Loyd family in Ark City, the Martin family in Oklahoma, and for the last 10 years her grandchildren (2) and great grandchildren (6). Being the youngest of 8 children she had the privilege of basically being the baby of 6 older “mothers”, Evelyn, Georgie, Mary, Lucille, and Pat, and two older brothers Bill and Jack. She adored her siblings and her many nieces and nephews, many of whom were close to her own age. Being the youngest, all her siblings preceded her in death along with her husband Aubrey, her son Mark L. Martin, and grandson Troy Martin. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws across the country literally from coast to coast who have fond memories of her. Barbara’s memory lives on in the lives of her son Keith and wife Lisa from Claremore, grandchildren Landon and wife Breanna of Norman OK, and Laci and husband Gabe Wilkins in Grand Junction CO. She saved the greatest volume of her love and affection for great grandchildren Kaisen and Lillian Aubrey in Norman, and Finley, Shepard, Campbell, and Harper June in Grand Junction. Memorial and graveside services for family and close friends will be held Monday, January 18th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of donations in Barbara’s memory to Light of Hope Ministries in Claremore ( ), and the ARC of Oklahoma, a non-profit that educates, empowers, advocates, and supports individuals with developmental disabilities, and their families ( ).
